By the end of the course, the student will be able to formulate problems as mathematical models, identify different types of optimization models, solve primarily linear models using the Excel solver, and interpret the solutions obtained.
The course aims to introduce mathematical modeling applied to environmental issues, particularly in the fields of water and transport. It also covers methods for solving these models—primarily linear ones—their implementation in Excel, and the interpretation of the results obtained.
The course covers linear, integer, network, and nonlinear models, as well as methods for solving optimization problems. It also includes the use of Excel’s Solver and database functions, along with an application to traffic assignment.
