In a world where knowledge is becoming increasingly specialized, understanding major contemporary issues requires a cross-disciplinary approach that brings together different perspectives. At UNamur, this conviction is reflected in our academic programs through interdisciplinary course units (UETR).
UETR courses are designed to be interdisciplinary. They offer students—and, depending on the course structure, faculty members and individuals outside the university—the opportunity to explore major societal issues, develop essential cross-disciplinary skills, and foster critical thinking beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries.
UETRs in bachelor's degree programs
Starting in the 2026–2027 academic year, the UETRs will be gradually integrated into the bachelor’s degree programs.
During your studies, typically in Block 2 or Block 3, you will be required to select two 3-credit cross-disciplinary courses, spread across two separate time slots.
Two niches, two complementary approaches
The MAGIS Program
Spirituality, Ethics, and Social Engagement
This track brings together courses that invite you to reflect on the meaning of your journey and to explore the spiritual, religious, ethical, and civic dimensions of life in society. These courses encourage personal reflection, dialogue, active listening, and openness to others.
The HORIZONS Program
Contemporary Issues and Interdisciplinary Skills
This track offers interdisciplinary courses addressing today’s major challenges. These UETRs help you develop skills that will serve you throughout your academic and professional journey, while exploring cross-disciplinary themes such as ecological transitions, sustainable development, digital skills, critical and civic thinking, academic success and skills, as well as international initiatives like UNIVERSEH.
Practical Arrangements
Each interdisciplinary course is worth 3 credits. Classes are generally held on Tuesdays between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to make it easier for students from different faculties to enroll.
If a cross-disciplinary course unit already corresponds to a required course in your program, you will need to choose another one in the same time slot (MAGIS or HORIZONS).
Depending on their organizational structure, some UETRs may have enrollment limits. Please consult your academic advisor regarding this matter.
Registration Instructions
If you are a regularly enrolled student at UNamur, you can register for UETR courses either as part of your annual program or as standalone courses, in addition to your primary enrollment. Some UETR courses are included in several degree programs.
If you are not a regularly enrolled student at UNamur, you may enroll in certain UETR courses as a non-degree student or auditor, exclusively through the registration office.
