The University of Namur and the Department of Education at the Haute École de Namur-Liège-Luxembourg are collaborating as part of the Local Integration Initiative (ILI) project, funded by the Walloon Region, to offer French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses designed to promote the academic and social integration of migrant students.

Beyond developing language skills, these courses place significant emphasis on learning the cultural and academic norms of higher education in Belgium. They also promote intercultural exchange, dialogue among students from different backgrounds, and the development of intercultural skills, in an environment that fosters openness, mutual understanding, and academic success.

The French as a Foreign Language (FLE) Course

French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses have been offered on campus since 2015, in partnership with the Hénallux Education Department.

The courses are based on the recommendations of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and are designed for migrants seeking to enroll in university, higher education at a Haute École, adult education programs, or continuing education. Courses are offered at levels B2 and C1.

Past Projects

  • Photography Workshop: “Identities”

For the 2022–2023 academic year, one of the intercultural projects aimed to bring together a multicultural group of higher education students during the second quarter for a series of photography workshops led by professional photographers.

The workshops were opportunities for connection, exchange, and creativity, during which multicultural groups agreed on a common theme to depict through images.

This collaboration culminated in the organization of an opening reception and an exhibition at Quai 22 in April 2023.

  • Interculturality Fortnight

Interculturality Fortnight took place from April 17 to 30, 2023. It is a shared experience of camaraderie, self-expression, freedom, and connection, open to everyone. The University of Namur took this opportunity to organize conferences, debates, and photo exhibitions related to the theme, in collaboration with several partners.
