Learning outcomes

The choice of internship is made in collaboration between the academic coordinator for internships and the Master thesis advisor ; it is generally related to the topic or theme of the Master thesis.

Goals

  • Discover and get used to a new research environment, out of UNamur

  • Develop autonomy and scientific maturity

  • Handle a personnal research project

  • Get familiar with the research career in a specific area

Content

The internship can take various forms. The student will be assigned to one or more research centers, or may participate in activities such as classes or conferences, for a total duration equivalent to 3 months outside of UNamur. An internship supervisor from outside UNamur will be designated for each component of the project. The proposed activities must be approved by the academic coordinator for internships, who will ensure that the objectives are met and that there is a balance among the proposed projects.

Assessment method

The student is evaluated based on three components:

  1. the scientific internship report (between 30 and 100 pages, excluding appendices), submitted on the same dates as the thesis, describing the specific objectives, the methods used, and the results obtained. It will be defended orally, either immediately after the thesis or separately (if the thesis is not defended in the same year or during the same session), and will be evaluated by the thesis committee (in the first case) or by a specially selected committee (in the second case).

  2. the (confidential) evaluation report from the internship supervisor who mentored the student.

  3. the internship report (maximum 10 pages) focusing on the conditions and circumstances of the internship, and on a critical analysis of the lessons learned and challenges faced.
