The program
The 120-credit Master’s program in Education, Section 4—Mathematics, consists of the following areas of focus:
Training Through and in Practice
Organized around internships in secondary schools, this component offers you the opportunity to discover various professional and social environments and aspects, and to develop and apply your teaching skills within them. During the internships, you will explore subject matter and refine your critical thinking regarding the challenges and issues related to teaching practice. You will be supported in this process through various seminars focused on the analysis of professional practice.
Didactic and pedagogical training
The didactics courses focus on how to teach your subject to your future students and on how subject-specific knowledge is constructed and evolves over time. They stimulate your creativity and provide you with tools and methods to develop your future lesson plans.
The pedagogy courses draw on various disciplines to help you design, implement, and evaluate teaching units tailored to students’ needs.
Training in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Emotional, organizational, cultural, and political dimensions round out your training to address the various facets of the teaching profession.
The course on Ethical and Professional Aspects of the Teaching Profession and the Foundations of Neutrality trains you to adopt an objective and unbiased attitude while respecting the diversity of opinions and values.
Training in and through Research
Centered around seminars and targeted guidance, this track focuses on discovering and mastering research methods in didactics and educational sciences. The culmination of this track is not only the defense of a final thesis on a topic chosen in consultation with instructors, but above all the development of an identity as a practitioner-researcher.
Subject-Specific Courses
These courses will round out your mastery of mathematics.
Epreuve liminaire écrite de maîtrise approfondie de la langue française (EMLF)
This is a compulsory diagnostic test of French language proficiency organized at the beginning of the year for all students enrolled for the first time in section 4 or 5. If you fail this test, a 5-credit remedial teaching unit will be added to your program (PAE).
