Overview

Your bachelor's degree is built on five pillars

  • Economics and Management: From the very first year, you dive into the heart of these subjects. You learn to apply the major theories in these fields. As you progress, you explore the subfields of economics and management, such as marketing, finance, accounting, monetary economics, international economics, and business strategy…
  • the humanities (history, sociology, psychology, philosophy): to help you better understand the environment in which you will operate and make decisions. Indeed, managers must be able to understand the motivations of their clients or employees, as well as the unique dynamics of the groups of people they will lead. If economists want to understand the debt crisis, they must know what happened previously. That is why a solid foundation in the humanities is a “must” for economists and managers.
  • Law: to understand the legal framework within which economists and managers make decisions;
  • Quantitative methods (e.g., mathematics, statistics) and computer science: to diagnose economic and managerial issues and make better decisions based on a critical analysis of data;
  • Languages: English and Dutch or German or Spanish.

Early on, you’ll have the opportunity to choose some of your courses. This allows you to specialize in the areas that interest you most.

You're off to a good start

  • You are interested in the economy, business, and issues related to the proper use of resources;
  • you want to analyze the causes and consequences of decisions;

Learning by doing

Project managers and change agents starting in college!

#A-E-Learning

Project-based learning brings together and applies your knowledge from various disciplines to real-world scenarios.

Just like real project managers, you learn to work collaboratively and demonstrate a range of skills:

  • from observation, literature review, source criticism, data collection, and analysis;
  • to producing a high-quality report—in some cases including an executive summary written in English—which you present, along with your team, to a panel.

A team of experts will coach you in:

  • project management,
  • your oral and written communication,
  • your work in English,
  • the theoretical and practical foundations of your action proposals.

The "Learning by Doing" Approach

In BLOCK 1

Market Analysis Project

  • Analyze economic indicators to identify market trends
    • Which economic sectors are promising? What risks, threats, and opportunities do companies face? Is it possible for the unemployment rate and the employment rate to rise simultaneously? What drives an increase in a stock market index?
    • IT and statistical tools facilitate your analysis of the strategic data you collect: company revenue, market share, GDP growth, exchange rates…
    • Once your analysis is complete, you draw conclusions essential for economic and managerial decision-making.

BLOCK 2

Entrepreneurship Project

  • The business plan: an indispensable tool for your entrepreneurial spirit
    • The launch of this new product will be a success. It’s all about preparation.
    • You start by considering the financing, profitability, and the environmental and social impact of manufacturing and marketing your new product. Once your analysis is complete, you implement a solid strategy to achieve your goals.
    • You’re now ready to launch your marketing campaign and capture market share!

  OR

Globalization and Economic Interdependence

  • Positioning Yourself in Economic Modeling
    • You adopt the perspective of the government, a company, workers, or consumers to propose regulations, corporate behavior, or wage trends.
    • Studying the mechanisms of international trade allows you to understand changes in the flow of goods and services, factor remuneration, competition, and the quality of the social and natural environment. Based on real-world cases, you will propose legislation, intervention by competition or trade authorities, or a social or industrial development policy.

BLOCK 3

Innovation Project

  • When your creativity becomes a reality
    • You trust this idea, and you’re right to do so.
    • Step by step, you steer its design and refinement. You assess its potential risks and adapt your strategy. Your analysis is clear: this innovation will revolutionize the market and the customer experience. All that’s left is to launch it!

   AND

Strategy Project

  • Anticipating reactions and calculating risks
    • And it’s a win! Yet another game tactic you’ve carefully crafted!
    • By playing against yourself, you discover the theory of decision-making games under uncertainty and anticipate the logic behind other participants’ reactions.
    • IT, statistical, and economic tools help you develop strategies and compare them to those of businesses and political negotiators.

What if you changed the rules of the game?

International experience

Discover an international and multicultural environment, learn how to manage a project, and communicate in another language!

Your studies in economics and management offer you the opportunity to complete two international study periods: one during your bachelor’s program and one during your master’s program, in Flanders, Europe, or beyond. It is also possible to complete your master’s internship abroad.

Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Rome, Galway, Tampere, Maastricht, Debrecen, as well as the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, and many other destinations await you!

You don’t hesitate to leverage your multilingual communication skills on the international stage or with the various teams with whom you manage projects.

You put your socially responsible management practices into action and ensure that your activities respect social, environmental, and economic concerns.

Some examples of roles

As recent graduates, you are often involved in project management. Working alone or as part of a team, you provide analyses or propose actions to achieve a given objective within a set timeframe, using available resources or those you organize. Your excellent analytical skills, communication skills, knowledge of foreign languages, international outlook, and above all your desire to learn are also important assets for many careers.

Finance

The financial sector (banks, insurance, government agencies, etc.) is the top employer for our graduates. Every company, from family-owned SMEs to multinational corporations, needs reliable financial indicators to develop realistic budgets and plans. The range of careers open to those passionate about numbers is broad:

  • financial analysis: dissecting balance sheets, evaluating loans, advising investors;
  • customer advisory services at a credit institution;
  • internal audit: verifying internal procedures for good governance and the preparation of reliable financial statements;
  • external audit: verifying the quality and accuracy of the financial information provided;
  • risk management: assessing and modeling all risks that could impact an organization;
  • fund accounting: daily calculation of the net asset value of various investment funds;
  • etc.

Trade and Distribution

Negotiating, securing the best prices, sourcing new suppliers, monitoring the development of new packaging, optimizing product delivery to customers… these are all high-stakes roles related to sales and distribution. In addition to strictly commercial enterprises such as mass retailers, manufacturing industries and certain service companies also offer numerous career opportunities in purchasing, marketing, and logistics.

In addition to strictly commercial enterprises such as mass retailers, manufacturing industries and certain service companies also offer numerous career opportunities in the fields of procurement, marketing, and logistics.

Business Management

In the industrial sector, our graduates are involved in every stage of the supply chain: they plan production, mediate disputes between sales teams and manufacturers, manage inventory, organize the transport of goods, and more.

Others apply their skills in the IT department, for example, in the implementation of integrated enterprise management software.

Some join human resources departments and handle recruitment, calculate payroll costs, implement skills management tools or training policies, and so on.

After a few years in operational roles, the careers of business graduates often progress to management positions where they participate in the company’s strategic decisions.

Consulting firms, specializing in business consulting, put their expertise and technical and human resources at the service of their clients, for example in the areas of strategy or the evaluation of internal processes. Many recent graduates begin their professional careers there.

Finally, entrepreneurship allows the most daring individuals to draw on the solid, multidisciplinary foundation of their education to launch their own companies.

Socio-economic analysis and policy-making

In public administrations, the non-profit sector, health insurance funds, political parties, labor unions, development aid organizations, business federations, and more, economics graduates observe and analyze the socio-economic situation. By providing opinions and advice, they contribute to the implementation and operation of policies and legislation.

Research and teaching

Some graduates pursue research activities in Belgium or abroad. They pursue a Ph.D. or participate in a research program. Many alumni share their knowledge through secondary, higher, and continuing education.

Job Search Assistance

The Career Services Office supports final-year master’s students and recent graduates in their career paths through various services: posting job and internship openings, career counseling sessions, workshops on topics related to entering the workforce, and information and resources on the professional world.
