Since 2012, AEQES has been responsible for formative quality assessments of programmes and programme-related quality processes within the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. UNamur’s various degree programmes are therefore regularly evaluated by the agency on a six-year cycle.

As part of the ESG process and in order to evaluate the various programmes, each faculty is required to submit a self-evaluation report to AEQES. Subsequently, experts appointed by AEQES are frequently sent to the site to conduct formative evaluations of the programmes. These visits take place according to a schedule set by the agency.

These evaluations are based on five criteria: governance and quality policies, programme relevance, internal programme coherence, effectiveness and equity, and, finally, reflexivity and continuous improvement.

The stages of programme assessment

  • Each faculty submits a self-assessment report to AEQES outlining the institution, its strengths, and the areas in need of improvement.
  • An initial visit by experts (lasting 2 to 3 days, depending on the institution) is organized.
  • These experts submit a preliminary report.
  • The faculty has the right to respond and may point out factual errors in the report.
  • The experts submit their final report and overall opinion on areas for improvement.
  • They conduct a cross-cutting analysis.
  • Based on the experts’ recommendations, the faculty develops an action plan.

Past and upcoming programme assessments

We have recently undergone several visits by the agency’s expert committees as part of evaluations of the economics and management, biology and chemistry, and Germanic and Romance languages and literature programmes. The next visits, scheduled for 2026, will focus on the biomedical sciences programmes and the information and communication programme. Each of these evaluations follows separate cycles, allowing the agency to operate efficiently while also enabling the institution to conduct follow-up activities as part of its continuous improvement efforts.

In the coming years, the geography, geology, and medicine programmes will also undergo a self-evaluation and a visit by a committee of experts.
