The course aims to equip students with the ability to analyze specific organizational and managerial requests and devise relevant, innovative solutions tailored to the context of the organization in question.
To this end, students work in groups, taking on the role of junior consultants. They are given a real-life brief by a partner company and must understand it, examine the issues at stake, analyze the organizational situation, and formulate a well-reasoned response, drawing on academic knowledge and practical experience.
The course therefore focuses on understanding the brief, analyzing the consulting assignement, and devising solutions.
This course aims to stimulate students’ analytical and innovative capacities in relation to organizational and managerial issues, while honing their practical skills with a scientific foundation. More specifically, the course aims to develop students’ ability to transform an organizational request into a consultancy problem and identify relevant, actionable solutions.
The objectives are as follows:
1. Understanding and reformulating an organizational and managerial consulting assignment, taking into account its context and the various underlying issues.
2. To analyze an organizational problem using various concepts, theories, and tools.
3. Identify the factors and levers likely to explain the situation and guide action.
4. Devising several innovative, relevant, actionable and sustainable solutions that are appropriate to the organization’s context.
5. Justify and priorities the proposed solutions, drawing on scientific knowledge and practical realities.
6. Adopt the mindset of a junior consultant by listening to requests, asking questions, taking a step back, presenting arguments and engaging in dialogue with clients.
The course starts with a kick-off session that aims to lay the foundations for the role of an external consultant and the design of organizational and managerial innovations. Secondly, the brief on which the team of junior consultants will be working will be presented. This will be followed by coaching sessions to support the teams, as well as a reverse hackathon to challenge the proposed innovations. Finally, the solutions will be discussed with a panel of academic and industry experts.
The course is structured around four main stages:
- A kick-off session covering theoretical foundations, real-world requirements and project objectives.
- Meetings with the academic and industry coaches.
- A reverse hackathon day
- A session to present the innovations to a panel of experts.
Learning outcomes are assessed as follows: consulting report (60%), active participation (hackathon, coaching – 15%), jury defense (25%).
