Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand key concepts such as bias and discrimination based on gender or race, and epistemic injustice;

  • identify instances of gender- or race-based bias in their daily lives;

  • reflect on their own gender- or race-based biases;

  • view their social reality in a different light, informed by the knowledge they have acquired.

Goals

UNAM0068 course aims to familiarise students with racial and gender biases, emphasising intersectionality. It covers key theoretical concepts and features testimonials from individuals in civil society and those directly affected by these issues.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 12 lectures, which will be given by professors, researchers and administrators from UNamur and other universities, as well as by members of organisations dedicated to combatting racial and gender discrimination.

Assessment method

Assessment will be based on a written group project, which will also be presented orally. Students will be informed of the requirements for this project during the first class.
