The student will have carried out an internship of a duration equivalent to 10 days in a professional environment linked to the production or breeding of animals (livestock, pets, wild animals) or the processing of products of animal origin. He/she will have understood the functioning of the farm/animal breeding and will have described and analysed it in a report (zootechnical, ethical, sociological, economic, ethological, sanitary aspects, ...). He/she will have learned the principles of restraint and handling of the animal species concerned by his/her training period. They will have reflected on their training and future professional life.
Understand the operating principles of a structure related to the production and/or breeding of animals. Encourage the development of autonomy, critical thinking and curiosity (in terms of management, legislation and practices related to the structure...)
Internship in a livestock farm, stud farm, zoo or animal park, animal shelter or slaughterhouse, ... .
This is not an observation period. It is important that the student is actively involved in the organisation's daily activities. The internship project must be designed by the student to ensure that the experience is rewarding (progress in acquiring a variety of skills).
The (unique) place of training and its content must be approved by the course coordinator(s) or his-her representative.
At mid term, student HAS to attend a meeting with coordinators/representatives of the course. This mid-term meeting (and therefore half of the work placement) should be done before the end of second semester (Q2) (meaning before end of June exams).
Work placement.
Student has to write multiple documents:
analysis report : relating thoughts on own competencies, main objectives of the work placement, as well as thoughts on the role of the veterinary in the work field.
logbook : daily writing reporting activities, questioning and answers to those questions
self-assessment form for various competencies (evaluation at beginning, mid-term and term of activity)
technical data sheet : topic sould be determined at mid-term to enable student completion during the second part of the work placement.
Feedback is provided halfway through the internship (discussion based on the logbook and self-assessment form). This helps guide the student in their internship activities and address points of interest for the technical report.
Mid-internship feedback is required for the presentation of the assessment, and should occur before the end of second semester (Q2) - end of June exams.
Internship is assessed according to the internship schedule, i.e. after the internship is completed, the internship supervisor's assessment and the report (and appendixes) submitted. The student can only register for the assessment in one period (June or August). There is no second session. The report and its associated documents (templates provided on Webcampus) serve as the basis for discussion with the jury.
An internship that is only partially completed by the end of the academic year or that does not comply with the instructions will be graded 0/20.
Students are encouraged to supplement their knowledge by consulting the relevant bibliography (scientific literature, reference books, food labels, summaries of product characteristics , etc.).
