AbstractFrequently touched surfaces (fomites) serve as reservoirs for pathogens, including bacteria and viruses, and act as vectors for contact-mediated transmission. They contribute to the spread of healthcare-associated infections and pose an increased risk during epidemic outbreaks, as highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This thesis focuses on the development of antimicrobial coatings that release silver (Ag) and copper (Cu), deposited by magnetron sputtering. Three coating matrices were investigated: hydrogenated amorphous carbon with or without chromium (a-C:H and Cr/CrN/a-CrC:H) and titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN).Antibacterial performance was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. To assess long-term efficacy, the antibacterial properties of the coatings were investigated through successive bacterial exposure cycles. Antiviral activity was evaluated against porcine respiratory coronavirus (PRCV), a member of the Orthocoronavirinae subfamily to which SARS-CoV-2 also belongs. For this purpose, a rapid, high-throughput antiviral screening assay was developed. This innovative method represents a promising approach for the standardized evaluation of antiviral surfaces. In addition to antimicrobial activity, the coatings were required to exhibit adequate mechanical properties and an attractive black appearance suitable for high-touch surfaces.The combination of Ag and Cu exhibited a synergistic effect, enhancing antimicrobial activity and broadening the spectrum of targeted pathogens. Optimization led to a TiAlN coating containing 0.9 at.% Ag and 1.7 at.% Cu, which provided the best balance between mechanical, antibacterial, and antiviral performance. Tribological wear tests confirmed that its antimicrobial efficacy was maintained for up to two years. Following a first edition dedicated to “Lifelines,” the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at UNamur is continuing its overarching theme for the 2026–2027 academic year. To help you test your knowledge of the various subjects and get a feel for the actual exam, UNamur invites you to participate in mock exams on Saturday, May 22, 2027, and/or Friday, July 9, 2027.This test has been designed by faculty members who are thoroughly familiar with the types of questions asked in the actual exam. However, this does not mean that this mock exam will be an exact replica of the 2027 exam!This mock exam will allow you to: to experience the exam under conditions similar to those in Brussels in August 2027;to assess your progress in preparation with just a few months or weeks to go before the exam. This mock exam goes beyond simply administering the test. Through a group review session with the instructors, you’ll be able to identify your mistakes and see your success rate on each question. 

Training Program ObjectivesThe objectives of this session are as follows: to provide you with practice, for each subject, in taking tests equivalent to those on the exam;to help you assess your progress based on the results you achieve on each test. Library, computer rooms, e-learning tools and videos accessible online: invaluable resources.The library, for a lawyer, proves as important as the laboratory for a chemist.To be a good lawyer is above all to be able to find the relevant information for resolving a dispute, drafting a contract or advising an investor; it means being able to identify the applicable regulations, the appropriate case law, the relevant doctrine.The Faculty of Law library provides free access to legal collections and works. Electronic legal documentation is also available. The use of this particular source of documentation is specifically taught to you. Computer rooms are open to students, and the library is also equipped with WIFI access.The Faculty of Law is also equipped with state-of-the-art tools to support different learning methods (e-learning platform "WebCampus", videoconferencing tool, course recording system...). For example, some class sessions are filmed and made available on the "WebCampus" platform, which also features exercises. Pedagogical videos (how to use the law code, etc.) and in-depth videos (interviews with experts, etc.) are also available online. More information How can you prepare for writing an academic paper? At the start of the second term, several writing workshops are organized. The aim of these workshops is to support you in writing your first academic paper, and to be able to lay the necessary foundations in preparation for the methodology (in the second year) and end-of-cycle (in the third year) papers. Each session is given in small groups. How can you prepare for the exams? Study regularly, acquire good methods, but also get to know the teachers' requirements and their way of questioning.In the first year, formative assessments are organized at the beginning of November in certain subjects. Teachers correct your papers, comment on them and organize group or individual correction sessions with assistants. These tests do not play a part in the marks awarded at the end of the year. They are merely a training tool, enabling you to appreciate the high standards set by your teachers, and to judge the effectiveness of your work and your ability to handle an examination situation.As soon as you start your studies, you will also benefit from specific preparation for oral examinations.After the first year, you will adapt your effort more effectively to the nature and importance of each subject on the syllabus. As a result, you no longer benefit from regular questioning, other than as part of the exercises. This session, held from June 28 to July 8, 2027, is devoted exclusively to working through exercises in all subjects based on the topics covered in the entrance exam curriculum. A forum allows you to ask the instructors any questions you may have, and a wide range of content and tools (additional exercises, explanatory videos, quizzes, answer keys, etc.) gives you the opportunity to study or review different parts of the curriculum on your own and continue your preparation right up until the day of the exam.
