In response to the growing shortage of general practitioners in rural areas, the University of Namur is launching a groundbreaking initiative to encourage future practitioners to explore these regions. This year, nine rural placement centers have been established in the provinces of Namur, Hainaut, and Luxembourg, enabling 26 students in the Master’s program specializing in general practice (a joint UNamur-UCLouvain degree) to complete an internship under conditions that facilitate their immersion. Designed to address barriers related to housing, transportation, and isolation, this pilot program has found a particularly promising first implementation in Chevetogne, in partnership with the Province of Namur and several municipalities.

The University of Namur Law Library is the legal scholar’s laboratory—their preferred place for research, study, and work. It is also a place open to everyone, with over 24,000 visitors per year, more than 50,000 searches in legal databases annually, and over 20,000 books available…It also houses the CRIDS (Center for Research, Information, Law, and Society) Documentation Center as well as the Vulnerabilities and Societies Documentation Center. It is open to all students, legal professionals, educators, and others.

To support its efforts to provide digital tools and innovative teaching methods, the School of Law has launched a sponsorship program for the chairs in its library. These chairs symbolically represent the generations of students who sit there each year to become the lawyers who will shape the world of tomorrow. 

Consultation Direct AccessAnyone with a library card may consult books and journals in the reading room. Most materials are available for direct access, and two photocopiers are also available to patrons.Reserve BooksApproximately 450 books are stored at the front desk and are available for in-library use only. The call numbers for these items end with the term “Reserve.” To access them, you must go to the service desk with your library card and the item’s reference (call number and title).To help you locate the materials, please refer to the “Locating Materials” section. Loan Students and individuals outside the School of Law may borrow up to three books for one evening or one weekend. Loans may be renewed once at the library desk or by phone. Failure to return a book by the due date results in a fine of 0.5 € per business day per book. Book loans are suspended until fines are paid. In the event of a repeat offense, borrowing privileges are suspended until the end of the current academic year.Faculty of Law staff members may borrow an unlimited number of books for a period of two months. The Library reserves the right, however, to request the return of borrowed books at any time. Failure to return a book by the due date will result in the suspension of borrowing privileges.Faculty of Law staff members may, however, borrow a maximum of one book from the reference collection, for a period limited to two days.Certain materials are not available for loan:PeriodicalsDocuments marked with a green stickerEncyclopedias, dictionaries, codes, and loose-leaf publicationsReserve books (red sticker)Every borrower is personally responsible for the items they borrow.
