Introduce students to sociological thought.
The course has two objectives. It aims to introduce students to sociology and teach them how to actively use the sociological concepts studied to analyse the social world.
Course is structured around major themes in sociology:
What is sociology?
The issue of social inequality
Norms and values in a changing world
The specific issue of patriarchy
Work as a social identity
The course is partially taught distance learning. Students follow along with the course through videos posted each week. These videos allow students to progress through the material at their own pace. Four sessions—held both in person and online (blended learning)—enable students to ensure they have a solid understanding of the material.
An open-book written exam is used to assess students' understanding of the material.
