Assessment method

The assessment will be in two parts: an oral examination and a practical examination.

1) Oral examination

Students are given two questions relating to different chapters of the course. After written preparation (approximately one hour) they will discuss their answers with the instructor. Assessment focuses on the rigour of their reasoning, their understanding of the physical phenomena underpinning the operation of certain electronic devices, and their ability to analyse a simple circuit diagram.

2) Practical examination

Students must build two circuits and demonstrate that they work as expected.

The assessment focuses on the ability to build a simple electronic circuit and demonstrate its operation by taking the appropriate measurements.

If a student does not participate in one or more parts of the examination (oral, practical), the overall mark for the course is 0/20, regardless of the mark obtained for the other part.

If the course is not passed (overall mark < 10/20), the partial marks (oral, practical) are carried over to the next examination session or the following academic year if they are 10/20 or above.
