Learning outcomes

This course is an introduction to philosophy centred on the relation between science and technology. The common thread of the course will be to wonder on the nature of computer science, between science and technology. The course will explore classical philosophy of science questions (how can we make sure an observation confirm a theory?) and questions in the philosophy of technology (is technology a solution to all our problems?). History of computer science will also be covered. Finally, the course will explore the place of values and morality in science and technology (can technology be value neutral?).

Teaching methods

The course will alternate between lectures and group discussions in class.

Assessment method

Assessment will be based on the final exam at the end of the semester and a non mandatory homework.
