A microcertification to understand what a programming language is and gain practical mastery of the key concepts used in Python.
Special attention is given to common applications in the field of biology, so that what you learn can be directly applied.
A course to help you understand, practice, and improve
This microcertification will help you understand what a programming language is and gain practical mastery of the key concepts used in Python.
In particular, you’ll learn how to work with variables, text, files, lists, dictionaries, functions, regular expressions, and even more complex data structures.
This course is designed for individuals who wish to build a solid foundation in programming, particularly in contexts related to biology, bioinformatics, or scientific data analysis. It is suitable for individuals who want to understand the fundamentals of Python and be able to apply them in real-world situations.

Progressive and practical content
The course covers the essential basics of programming, step by step:
- introduction to programming;
- variables and data types;
- text manipulation;
- reading and writing files;
- lists, loops, and conditional structures;
- functions, recursion, and testing;
- regular expressions;
- dictionaries and complex data structures;
- object-oriented programming;
- functional programming;
- iterators, generators, and exception handling.
A practice-oriented approach to education
The training program alternates between interactive lectures, illustrative exercises, and hands-on computer work.
The exercise sessions follow the progress of the course to allow for a gradual understanding of the concepts.
The goal is to equip you with the right habits, best practices, and tools needed to develop programs in a practical and structured way.

Certification and Assessment Procedures
The training program is assessed through two complementary exams designed to evaluate both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired. The assessment includes:
- a written theoretical exam, accounting for 50% of the final grade,
- as well as a practical exam on a computer, also worth 50%.
This approach ensures a practical mastery of the concepts and tools covered throughout the training program.
A certificate of completion* is issued to participants who have met the program’s requirements.
* This program is part of the University’s continuing education offerings. Upon fulfillment of the academic requirements, it leads to the issuance of a university certificate of completion. This certificate constitutes internal institutional recognition and does not constitute an official certification, a degree, or the awarding of recognized credits as defined by the “Paysage” decree.
