His long-term collaboration with Dr. Aniruddha Chatterjee recently resulted in the first collaborative framework agreement between the University of Otago and UNamur, as well as an international Erasmus+ (EU) credit mobility funding this scientific mission. Frédéric Silvestre deepened his understanding of the advanced DNA methylation techniques employed by Dr. Chatterjee's team, including their bioinformatics workflows and innovative approach to epigenetic editing. He has given several seminars presenting LEAP's research on mangrove rivulus and turquoise molefish. He also presented at the Australasian Epigenetic Alliance conference and had the opportunity to explore potential new collaborations with other departments, including zoology, sustainable development, chemistry and marine sciences.

Quentin Willot (Biology) has just joined URBE for a two-year post-doctoral position (Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, supervisor: Alice Dennis) on a project called ChillAnts. This project focuses on the study of adaptation to extreme temperatures in holarctic (trans-Beringian) ant species, from a physiological, ecological and evolutionary point of view. Quentin will present a more technical aspect of his work (Thermal Death Time Curve Modelling).

The Laboratory of Evolutionary and Adaptive Physiology (LEAP) is directed by Professor Frédéric Silvestre. It is one of 4 laboratories belonging to the Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Research Unit (URBE) within the Biology Department. LEAP is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth and Environment (ILEE).Research is in the field of integrative, comparative and evolutionary physiology. We aim to study the impacts of environmental changes (pollution, temperature, salinity, etc.) on aquatic organisms at different levels: molecular, physiological, phenotypic.

As part of their research activities around mineral resources and fossil ages, Johan Yans' research team is exploring the world in search of the finest/richest deposits, partnering with several universities and mining companies (Université Mohammed Premier d'Oujda, Geosciences-Rennes, Groupe Managem, etc.). They are taking part in paleontological excavations to collect sediment samples that will be dated using state-of-the-art isotope methods, in collaboration with ISEM (Institut des Sciences de l'Evolution de Montpellier), the Museum d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris and the Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique.

The Adaptive Biodynamics Laboratory (LAB) is directed by Professor Eli Thoré. It is one of 4 laboratories belonging to the Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Research Unit (URBE) within the Biology Department. The LAB is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth and Environment (ILEE).

As part of their research activities around magmas and planets, Max Collinet's research team analyzes meteorites and uses data from space missions to understand how the rocks covering the various planets and asteroids in the solar system were formed, and how our Earth is unique.They reproduce the conditions of magma formation and crystallization in the laboratory and using modeling tools. They confront their results with those of geologists, chemists and physicists, both Belgian and international, in order to constrain the first-order processes that define the main characteristics of planets, including their habitability.

The Unité de Recherche en Biologie Cellulaire et Moléculaire Végétale (URBV) studies plant organisms at the cellular and molecular levels. The topics covered focus mainly on polysaccharide metabolism using modern techniques, including transgenesis and molecular markers.
