Quantum chemistry at the University of Sfax thanks to the ERASMUS+ program

A practical training course in computational quantum chemistry was organized from May 26 to 30, 2025 as part of an ERASMUS+ collaboration between the University of Sfax and the University of Namur. This inter-university training course for PhD students in chemistry and physics from the Tunisian University brought together more than 20 students.

The Master's degree specializing in sustainable development management and economics: a program rooted in contemporary issues

For more than 30 years, the Department of Flexible Scheduling at the Faculty of Economics, Management, Communication, and Political Science (EMCP) at the University of Namur has been helping adults returning to school to acquire new skills. In 2023, the Department launched a brand-new program: a Master's degree specializing in sustainable development management and economics. This one-year program addresses environmental and societal challenges by training professionals to support the ecological and economic transition.

A first in Belgium: UNamur researcher reveals forgotten history of Walloon wolves thanks to ancient DNA

From 2020 to 2025, as part of her doctoral thesis in history, researcher Julie Duchêne conducted a ground-breaking investigation blending history and biology to trace the cohabitation between humans and wolves in Wallonia and Luxembourg, from the 18th to the early 20th century. Thanks to an innovative interdisciplinary approach, including DNA analysis of naturalized 19th-century specimens, her work sheds light on the mechanisms that led to the local extinction of the species. This research was made possible thanks to the support of numerous scientific and cultural partners.

Let’s Twist (Light) Again: UNamur & Stanford bend beams in photonic crystals

An international team of researchers has just published an article in the prestigious journal Light: Science & Applications (LSA) from the Nature group.  The teams led by Professors Michaël Lobet and Alexandre Mayer (University of Namur) collaborated with the team led by Professor Shanhui Fan, one of the leading experts in the field, from the prestigious Stanford University in California (USA).  The result: an article entitled ‘Twist-Induced Beam Steering and Blazing Effects in Photonic Crystal Devices’, or the study of beam deflection by twisting in photonic crystal devices.  Come on, let's twist light again at UNamur!

As part of a research project on the medieval heritage preserved at the Moretus Plantin University Library (BUMP), the archive entrusted to it by the de Brouchoven de Bergeyck family has been meticulously studied by historian Romain Waroquier. This collection is of undeniable historical and scientific interest: hitherto unknown to researchers, it contains extremely rare documents.

This summer of 2025, Killian takes up his post as president of UNamur's General Assembly of Students (AGE). At the age of 24, he is a student of mathematical sciences. Since his arrival at UNamur, he has made a point of getting involved in campus life: math circle, kots-à-projets, Namur regional, student council and circle assembly.
