By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the principles of eco-design and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), identify and interpret the environmental impacts of a product, service, or project, and understand how these are integrated into a comprehensive, multi-criteria approach to improving environmental performance.
The course aims to provide an understanding of the issues surrounding environmental performance, the principles of eco-design, and the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to quantify environmental impacts across the entire life cycle. It also demonstrates how these principles can be integrated into a structured environmental design process.
The course covers environmental performance, eco-design, and Life Cycle Assessment—including its principles, indicators, methods, data, and tools. These concepts are complemented by the study of practical eco-design approaches, notably the High Environmental Quality (HQE) framework applied to buildings and urban planning.
