This course aims to provide the student with the mathematical tools necessary for the study of the chemical sciences. The skills that the student will need to develop focus on understanding the main concepts of mathematical analysis and their use in applications.
The aim of the course is to provide the student with mathematical tools that he/she can then use independently.
Functions of one real variable (usual functions, limits, derivation, integration, etc.) Complex numbers Introduction to differential equations
Each new concept is introduced as much as possible in a concrete context. Applications are proposed during the course in order to allow the student to develop a critical and analytical mind when faced with a scientific problem to be treated mathematically. Insofar as possible, the student is encouraged to interact, to state his or her solution and to compare it with that of another student or the teacher.
The examination is written. It consists of: (1) theory questions focusing on the understanding of theoretical concepts and demonstrations; (2) exercises/problems similar (or even identical) to those solved in the tutorial sessions. Calculation of the score: 1/3 part (1) + 2/3 part (2). A basic (non-graphic) calculator is allowed to perform basic calculation operations. The examination covers two separate learning activities. In case of distance assessment, assessments will be written, with copies delivered via WebCampus and interaction via Teams.
