Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students should be able (individually or in groups) to
- present themselves orally in a professional way ;
- write a cover letter  and a curriculum vitae;
- take part in a job interview;
- respond concisely in writing to reflective questions on the business world, using the necessary vocabulary and grammatical structures;
- use vocabulary related to the world of work at B1 level
- demonstrate mastery of grammatical structures at B1 level.

Goals

The ECDLBB391 course is a continuation of the EELVB291 course. It aims to achieve level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in all skills, specifically productive skills. The main objectives are as follows:

- To improve grammar (level B1) and thematic vocabulary related to the subjects covered in the course;

- to apply grammar and vocabulary to the various receptive and productive skills at the desired level

- Preparation for the world of work and communication in the workplace (e.g. CV, cover letter, job interviews, meetings, etc.);

- Discovering yourself, your skills and your needs in a professional environment

- Meeting a Dutch speaker (interview or potentially tandem);

- Developing cross-disciplinary skills (autonomy, cooperation, analysis, critical thinking and synthesis, stress, time and deadline management, etc.).

Content

In this last compulsory Dutch course, you will improve the basic knowledge (vocabulary, grammar, etc.) that you have acquired in the 1st and 2nd year through activities in which you will practise your communicative skills (oral and written expression, reading, listening) relating to the professional environment.

Teaching methods

- Interactive seminar (max. 30 students/group).

- Personal work: ‘Een Nederlandstalige interviewen’ or potentially 'tandem'

- The course takes place every other week.

- The course will be based, among other things, on the principle of the flipped classroom: students prepare materials (texts, videos) and exercises (oral, written) before coming to class in order to mobilise them through presentation and exchange activities proposed by the teacher. The presence and active participation of the students is therefore absolutely essential for the course to run smoothly.

Assessment method

The course can only be passed if all parts of the mark have been presented and none of the parts is less than 7/20. Any part that is not presented or any unjustified absence from any part of the assessment will result in a mark of 1/20 for the course as a whole. However, for the August session, if the overall course average does not reach 10/20, each student will only sit again those parts for which they have not obtained 10/20.

-The course aims to achieve level B1.Recurrent grammatical errors at a lower level (A1-A2-A2+) and any error in relation to the vocabulary seen in Block 1 and Block 2 may result in failure of the written and oral productions.

- Continuous assessment (60%)

o ‘Een Nederlandstalige interviewen’ or potentially 'tandem'(25%)

o Grammar - vocabulary - writing (35%)

2 tests will be organised during the year in class.

 - June exam (40%)

o Written part in preparation to the oral (10%): cover letter + curriculum vitae in response to a job offer in Dutch in a Flemish or Dutch company selected by the student, due by Sunday 17 May 2026. Assessment will be based on :

- the match between the letter and the offer ;

- language use quality (vocabulary, grammar) ;

- coherence and cohesion of ideas.

o Oral exam (30%): conditional on the timely submission of the cover letter + cv + job offer (see above).

- Job interview based on the job offer.

- Optional activities

In the first session only, students who have actively, repeatedly and purposefully participated in an optional activity will be awarded 0.5 bonus points. These may include :

- Lunchtime conversation tables

- Extra supervision with Mrs Schoonbroodt
