“My Thesis in 180 Seconds” is a competition for PhD students and recent PhD graduates. In three minutes, participants must present their thesis topic in simple terms and in French, avoiding scientific jargon to make it understandable to a general audience.

MT180 consists of three stages

  • A training program led by professionals;
  • A local competition, held within UNamur;
  • A national competition bringing together the winners from all universities in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

History

Created by ACFAS in 2012, the "My Thesis in 180 Seconds" competition is inspired by the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at the University of Queensland in Australia. In 2014, ACFAS collaborated with the CNRS, the CPU in France, the CNRST in Morocco, and the University of Liège in Belgium to organize the competition and its first international final in Montreal. In 2015, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie joined the committee, followed by Switzerland in 2016 with CUSO.
