About

Biography

Luca Fusaro studied Chemistry at the University of Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy). During his Master’s thesis, he focused on classical molecular dynamics simulations of DNA quadruplexes.

He then pursued a PhD at the same university, investigating hydrophobic cavities in various supramolecular systems by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) of 1H and 19F, using sulfur hexafluoride gas as a probe. During his PhD, he spent one year at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) in the group of Prof. Michel Luhmer.

After completing his PhD, he returned to Brussels for a postdoctoral position in the same group, working on several projects, including photo-CIDNP studies of Ru-based photosensitizers and the characterization of pharmaceutical and supramolecular compounds by heteronuclear NMR (113Cd, 195Pt, 199Hg, 205Tl, 207Pb, etc.).

He was later awarded an FNRS (Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique) grant to study the dynamics of lanthanide-based paramagnetic ligands for MRI applications, using 17O NMR spectroscopy.

Since 2014, he has been managing the NMR facility at the University of Namur (Belgium), which hosts four high-field spectrometers for liquid- and solid-state NMR. His work fosters multiple collaborations on national and international research projects. His current interests include the characterization of complex crystalline phases formed from simple molecular components and their crystallisation.

Luca Fusaro is author of over 70 papers reported in peer reviewed journals.  All Luca Fusaro's publications are available on the UNamur research portal...

Domains of expertise

Luca Fusaro is an expert in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). His interests include the characterisation of structure and dynamics of various molecular systems in liquid- and solid-state. He enjoys the use of heteronuclear NMR and collaborate on several national and international research projects.

External responsibilities

Luca Fusaro is a Research Logistician at University of Namur, working on the PC2 technological platform. The PC2 Platform is constituted by a large park of instruments including: nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers, single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractiometers, instruments for the analysis of the textural properties (N2 physisorption, mercury porosimetry, …) and for the chemical composition (combustion chemical analysis, ICP, …) as well as separation techniques (chromatography, centrifugation…).
