Following the Reform of Initial Teacher Training (RFIE) in 2023, things have changed for those wishing to become teachers.

At the University of Namur, the Faculty of Education and Training Sciences (FaSEF), Belgium's first faculty dedicated specifically to teacher training, manages these bachelor's and master's programs.

FaSEF also runs the Center for Continuing Education for Teachers and Trainers (CEFOPEF) in the field of teaching and support, organized within the Salle des Pros

Bachelor's and master's degrees in education

Bachelor's and Master's degrees in teaching

To become a teacher in kindergarten through 9th grade (sections 1 to 3), students must now complete a four-year program (three years of bachelor's degree + one year of master's degree).

Master's degrees in teaching

If you wish to teach grades 8 through 10 (sections 4 and 5) in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, you must complete a master's degree program in education.

UNamur offers 120-credit master's degrees in education (section 4) and 60-credit master's degrees in education (section 5) in several fields, allowing you to supplement your disciplinary studies with teacher training. UNamur is the reference institution for these programs, which are organized in partnership with Hénallux. The master's degree in music education section 4 is also organized in conjunction with IMEP.

The preliminary written test of advanced proficiency in French (EMLF), a mandatory diagnostic test of French language proficiency, is scheduled at the beginning of the year for all students enrolled for the first time in section 4 or 5. If you fail this test, a 5-credit remedial teaching unit will be added to the PAE.
