Welcome to the 1ʳᵉ MG-ERC conference This conference, linked to the research themes of the Chemistry Department, aims to bring together around 100 researchers working in the fields of heteroatom chemistry, coordination chemistry, catalysis, and inorganic chemistry. It represents a real novelty in Belgium in terms of the areas covered, and will enable participants to discover new concepts, ideas and trends in these recent areas of research in chemistry. Every two years, the International Symposium on Marek's Disease and Avian Herpesviruses (MDAH) brings together researchers from around the world to exchange the latest insights on poultry viral diseases - covering their biology, evolution, control strategies, and epidemiology. Attendees include PhD students, postdocs and researchers representing academia, government, and commercial organizations from North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and Africa. On July 1, 2025, the F.R.S.-FNRS published the list of winners of the various doctoral and postdoctoral mandates, Télévie projects and co-financing with the Fonds de recherche du Québec. Initiated and coordinated by Bernard Pireaux (UCLouvain), this collective work - co-authored in particular by Professors Laurent Houssiau and Jim Plumat (UNamur) - offers a reference manual to accompany students of medicine, biomedical sciences and life sciences throughout their course. Designed as a clear, progressive and practical tool, it illustrates just how essential physics is to the understanding of living organisms and to medical practice.

Trust of traditional political institutions and elected representatives, rise of authoritarian logics, definition of public services... Democracy today seems to be going through a turbulent zone. What role does the university play in this context? To shed light on this question, we interviewed four researchers from different disciplines: educationalist Sephora Boucenna, philosopher Louis Carré, political scientist Vincent Jacquet and legal scholar Aline Nardi. Their contrasting views sketch out the contours of an issue that is more topical than ever: thinking about and defending the link between university and democracy.

In 2025-2026, UNamur's Faculty of Sciences has the honor and privilege of hosting Professor Sander Jacobs on the occasion of a Francqui Chair awarded to him by the Francqui Foundation: "Repairing our relationship with Nature to transform our societies". Sander Jacobs is Senior Researcher at INBO (Institute for Nature and Forest), Nature & Society research group, Coordinator of the Urban Nature research program and Visiting Professor at Ghent University.
