The UNamur to host two prestigious international Francqui Chairs in April 2023
From 17 April 2023, UNamur will host two prestigious international Francqui Chairs. Professor Timoteo Carletti (Department of Mathematics - naXys Institute) will host Professor Ginestra Bianconi, one of the leading experts on networks and high-order structures. Professor Romain Houssa (Faculty of Economics, Social Sciences and Management - DeFiPP Institute) will welcome Professor Karel Mertens, an expert in macroeconomics.

Participatory funding: Specularia, experimental archaeology project
The Department of Art History and Archaeology of UNamur is participating for the first time in an experimental archaeology project, within the framework of a doctoral thesis on the production of glass in the Roman period. Conducted in partnership with Malagne, the Rochefort archaeopark, the Specularia project aims to gain a better understanding of the reality of the gestures and techniques of Gallo-Roman craftsmen and to scientifically validate hypotheses that are still debated today. To carry out this experiment, the Department of Art History and Archaeology is launching its first participatory funding.

Hybrid teaching for classes at staggered times
The health crisis has proven to be a tremendous catalyst for the use by the academic world of distance learning devices. A forced march that forced teachers and students to acquire sometimes unmastered techniques. In the Faculty of Economics, Social Sciences and Management, a think tank led by Jean-Yves Gnabo, Director of the Economics and Management department with shift hours, and Denise Van Dam, educational coordinator, investigated the opportunity of open the field of possibilities in technical and educational matters. Objective? Offer learners more flexible Bachelor's or master’s training courses designed specifically for adults returning to study, by providing them with an environment that allows them to live a memorable, impactful experience that serves as a springboard.

Students from the Michigan State University in a summer school at UNamur
The Summer School in International Finance takes place every summer at UNamur. About fifteen students from the Michigan State University spend a month in Namur, accompanied by two professors. At the initiative of this summer school, Antoinette Tessmer, a former doctoral student from UNamur, now professor of Finance in the USA. An experience which combines finance and French lessons, service to society and the discovery of Belgium in all its aspects.

The PraME Centre contributes to the restitution of a charter from 1176
At the end of January 2023, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) returned a real treasure to Belgium: a medieval charter bearing the seal of the Count of Flanders Philippe d'Alsace, formerly kept in the abbey of Messines (West Flanders), which had disappeared at the beginning of the First World War. A look back at the tribulations of this archival document, the restitution of which is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the PraME Centre of UNamur, the General Archives of the Kingdom and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A new collaboration with Benin
In January 2023, Professor Romain Houssa of UNamur led a Belgian delegation to formulate a new ARES Institutional Support (IS) programme at the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) in Benin. This multidisciplinary research and innovation support programme aims to strengthen scientific collaboration between FWB researchers and Benin as well as other countries in the West African region, notably Togo, Niger and Burkina Faso.
