Preparatory Courses Discover university-level education and life at UNamur while reviewing the subjects essential to your future program of study.To help you start your first year of studies on the right foot, UNamur offers a program of preparatory courses tailored to the academic program of your choice during the last two weeks of August.These preparatory courses allow you to:review the knowledge you acquired in high school; refine your study habits; meet teaching assistants and professors in a more informal setting before the semester begins; make your first connections with other students.For students in the Information Technology and Management track: mathematics, computer science, and study skills; Dutch and English. Test your knowledge and skills with the “Passports to the Bac.”Starting in the first year, the “Passports to the Baccalaureate” allow you to compare your current knowledge and skills with your teachers’ expectations.Based on your results, the Faculty will offer you remedial sessions. This will help you address any gaps in your knowledge and increase your chances of success. The results of these tests do not count toward your end-of-year grade. Are your methods appropriate? To succeed in your first year, you need effective strategies.Study skills workshops are held to help you become familiar with university learning techniques:taking clear and comprehensive notes;summarizing and synthesizing course material;gaining a deep understanding of the material;memorizing large amounts of information;managing your time during the regular academic term and exam periods;organize your work;anticipate instructors’ expectations.In addition, the Interfaculty Academic Support Unit offers individual guidance. Throughout the year, an advisor is available to review your study methods and techniques and help you improve them. What if you run into difficulties? The Faculty offers remedial sessions, office hours, and other services between exam periods.Remedial SessionsRemedial sessions are held in small groups; they allow you to thoroughly review the material covered in class and prepare effectively for exams.The details of these sessions vary by course and are specified by the instructors.Office HoursInstructors or teaching assistants regularly hold group Q&A sessions. Outside of these office hours, they are also available to meet with you by appointment.Between Exam SessionsAfter the January and June exams, you have the opportunity to review your exam papers, attend a grading session, receive additional explanations, have your homework assignments graded, and more.All these activities are coordinated by the Faculty’s Academic Coordination Office, which serves as a liaison between students and faculty members. How can you prepare for exams? Study regularly, develop good study habits, and familiarize yourself with your professors’ expectations and their testing styles.In the first year, formative assessments are held in late October in certain subjects. Your exams, corrected and annotated, will be returned to you.These tests do not factor into your end-of-year grades. They are a tool to help you assess your professors’ expectations and the effectiveness of your study methods.You can discuss your results with your professors or the head of the Academic Coordination Office and, if necessary, contact the Interfaculty Academic Support Unit to improve your study habits.Beyond the first year, you should adapt your efforts more effectively to the nature and importance of each subject in the curriculum. Exam Administration January, June, and, if necessary, August… three sessions to demonstrate your mastery of the material.In January, you take the exams covering the first quadrimester’s courses. If you fail, you can retake the exam in June and/or August. You have three chances to pass, but only during your first year of the bachelor’s program.Starting in the second year of the bachelor’s program, any exam failed during the January or June session is automatically rescheduled for the August session. They aim to re-explain and synthesize material seen in lectures, as well as to prepare you for tests and exams with the help of questions and answers, diagrams, document commentaries...And for students who have to present a second session, revision sessions are organized during the summer vacations.Individual supportThe Faculty of Law also organizes specific educational support in the form of preparatory sessions for the blockade and written exams, and individual interviews for methodological advice. You can be accompanied by a pedagogue specialized in the difficulties specific to law studies through individual appointments, email advice and/or group "coaching" sessions. Library, computer rooms, e-learning tools and videos accessible online: invaluable resources.The library, for a lawyer, proves as important as the laboratory for a chemist.To be a good lawyer is above all to be able to find the relevant information for resolving a dispute, drafting a contract or advising an investor; it means being able to identify the applicable regulations, the appropriate case law, the relevant doctrine.The Faculty of Law library provides free access to legal collections and works. Electronic legal documentation is also available. The use of this particular source of documentation is specifically taught to you. Computer rooms are open to students, and the library is also equipped with WIFI access.The Faculty of Law is also equipped with state-of-the-art tools to support different learning methods (e-learning platform "WebCampus", videoconferencing tool, course recording system...). For example, some class sessions are filmed and made available on the "WebCampus" platform, which also features exercises. The aim of these workshops is to support you in writing your first academic paper, and to be able to lay the necessary foundations in preparation for the methodology (in the second year) and end-of-cycle (in the third year) papers. Each session is given in small groups. How can you prepare for the exams? Study regularly, acquire good methods, but also get to know the teachers' requirements and their way of questioning.In the first year, formative assessments are organized at the beginning of November in certain subjects. Teachers correct your papers, comment on them and organize group or individual correction sessions with assistants. These tests do not play a part in the marks awarded at the end of the year. They are merely a training tool, enabling you to appreciate the high standards set by your teachers, and to judge the effectiveness of your work and your ability to handle an examination situation.As soon as you start your studies, you will also benefit from specific preparation for oral examinations.After the first year, you will adapt your effort more effectively to the nature and importance of each subject on the syllabus. Some certificate programs are organized directly by UNamur, while others are offered through interuniversity collaborations, all while benefiting from the recognized expertise of Namur-based researchers and practitioners.

Since 2022, the School of Law has chosen an annual theme that brings together the entire School—students and faculty alike—across all tracks and programs. This overarching theme is incorporated into courses, mentoring sessions, assignments, public speaking competitions, conferences, and educational and cultural activities offered throughout the academic year. This inspiring and values-driven approach continues to make the educational experience at the University of Namur even more unique. Thus, in 2022–2023, we focused on CHILDHOOD & MIGRATION; in 2023–2024, we focused on HARASSMENT in all its forms; in 2024–2025, on INCLUSION, with the goal of enabling everyone to find their place in society regardless of race, gender, social class, generation, ability, romantic and/or sexual orientation, and in 2025–2026, we focused on the environmental pillar of sustainable development, with the slogan “LET’S RE-ENCHANT THE EARTH!”
