The Notre-Dame de la Paix Chair is a cross-disciplinary institutional project rooted in the Jesuit origins and values of UNamur. The Chair provides a forum for reflection, exchange, and collective work on a variety of societal and spiritual issues, such as the commons and the common good, the links between religions and societies, the contribution of religious studies to understanding today's world, and the spiritual dimension of university activity.

History

Since 2018, the Notre-Dame de la Paix Chair has been organizing events (conferences, seminars, study days, symposiums) addressing spiritual and societal issues in a spirit of freedom, diversity, openness, respect, and scientific rigor. The projects are carried out within an interdisciplinary and interfaith dialogue, bringing together the perspectives of academic experts and practitioners in the field.Initially based at the Notre-Dame de la Paix University Center (ESPHIN research institute), the Chair has become in 2026 a cross-disciplinary institutional project within UNamur. It continues the spirit established at its founding by promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration within the academic community.

Three themes

A platform for collective dialogue and sharing with the general public, a place of learning and fruitful debate, the Notre-Dame de la Paix Chair focuses its activities on three themes:

  • The commons and the common good, with a view to building a sustainable world;
  • Religious studies and the link between spirituality, religion, and society;
  • Ignatian pedagogy and the spiritual dimension of student engagement and university activity.

Although it has become a cross-disciplinary project within the university community, the Chair also maintains strong links with the Notre-Dame de la Paix University Center and its activities.

The activities organized under the auspices of the Notre Dame de la Paix Chair are presented below.
