The Laboratory of Evolutionary and Adaptive Physiology (LEAP) is directed by Professor Frédéric Silvestre.  It is one of five laboratories belonging to the Research Unit in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology (URBE) within the Department of Biology. LEAP is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth, and Environment (ILEE).Our research focuses on integrative, comparative, and evolutionary physiology. We aim to study the impacts of environmental changes (pollution, temperature, salinity, etc.) on aquatic organisms at various levels: molecular, physiological, and phenotypic. 

The Adaptive Biodynamics Laboratory (LAB) is directed by Professor Eli Thoré.  It is one of five laboratories belonging to the Research Unit in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology (URBE) within the Department of Biology. The LAB is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth, and Environment (ILEE).Life is dynamic, complex, and deeply interconnected at all scales. At the LAB, we take an integrative approach to understanding how animals respond to environmental changes—particularly those driven by human activity—across space and time.

Frederik De Laender’s laboratory at the University of Namur (UNamur) is advancing predictive ecology by integrating theoretical modeling, experimental systems, and quantitative data analysis. It is one of five laboratories belonging to the Research Unit in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology (URBE) within the Department of Biology. LEAP is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth, and Environment (ILEE). 

Brendan Reid's laboratory makes extensive use of genomic data (with a particular focus on time-series data from museum specimens and environmental DNA) to identify how species and communities respond to environmental changes. His lab is one of five labs belonging to the Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Research Unit (URBE) within the Department of Biology. He is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth, and Environment (ILEE).

How can anomaly detection on a production line be improved? It was in response to a very concrete problem encountered at the company where he works that Arnaud Bougaham, with the support of his employer, decided to devote his thesis to this topic at the UNamur School of Computer Science. The goal? To develop an artificial intelligence model that assists operators in detecting anomalies on an industrial production line by reducing false alarms and making the diagnosis easier to understand. This approach also holds promise for deployment in the medical field.

All seminars are held in a hybrid format.The "Methods" seminar series focuses on cutting-edge methodological approaches, particularly in the fields of natural language processing (NLP), artificial intelligence (AI), video and image analysis, and multimodal analysis.

At the Domaine d’Haugimont, UNamur is drawing lessons from thirty years of nature-based forestry. On September 4, the results of the PRW108 project—carried out with funding from the Walloon Region’s “Supporting the Regeneration of Resilient Forests” initiative—were presented in the presence of Anne-Catherine Dalcq, Walloon Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and members of the Baillet Latour Fund. The results demonstrate the economic viability and ecological impact of this approach to forestry. Thanks to the Baillet Latour Fund’s Environment Award, granted to UNamur in 2016 for the multifunctional management of the estate, these results are now summarized in educational, illustrated brochures made available during guided forest tours.
