The workshop provides a forum for the discussion of new research directions and applications in Artificial Life, Evolutionary Computation and in related fields, where different disciplines and research areas could effectively meet. It was first held in 2007 in Sampieri (Ragusa), as the incorporation of two separate workshops (WIVA and GSICE).

Angélique Aristondo, a C2W post-doctoral fellow at UNamur, has distinguished herself by winning the second 2023 Gender and Health Research Award from the ARES Women and Science Committee. Her research project focuses on violence against women in Senegal.

Modelling the Universe to understand how it came into being, how it works and how the physical objects that make it up work - that's the day-to-day work of the researchers in the naXys SPACE cluster. An international conference on "Complex Planetary Systems (CPSII)" is being organised at UNamur from 3 to 7 July 2023, with activities open to the public, including two round tables, a show at the Delta and a Space Quiz!

This June 28, 2024, the first twenty-two students of the Certificat interuniversitaire en Langue des Signes de Belgique Francophone (LSFB) et français, are proclaimed at UNamur. This is the first training course in French-speaking Belgium to be entirely designed in sign language for the deaf. It represents a significant step forward in inclusive education and the linguistic and social inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. It also highlights the strengths of deaf professionals in these fields.

The colloquium will be held on Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the University of Namur (Belgium). Detecting a failure before it occurs: that is the goal of the research being conducted by Antoine Hubermont, a doctoral student at UNamur. This project, named Monsater, is funded by SPW Research as part of the Win4Doc program in collaboration with the space company Telespazio Belgium. It addresses a key strategic challenge: ensuring the reliability of complex systems, particularly in the space sector. 

It's official: the University of Namur joins the Réseau d'Échanges et de Liaisons entre Institutions d'Enseignement Supérieur Francophones (RELIEF). It thus becomes the fourth partner in this network, alongside the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), the Université Savoie Mont Blanc and the Haute École Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale (HES-SO).

This is a great reward for the Interuniversity Certificate in Sign Language and French: it has just been distinguished by the European Innovative Teaching Award (EITA) in the "European Language Label" category.

Born on the internet, memes are an integral part of digital culture. These images, often humorous, combine text and visuals to convey a message. At UNamur, Lieven Vandelanotte, professor of English language and linguistics and general linguistics at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, has taken an interest in them from a linguistic point of view. In his new book, co-written with Barbara Dancygier of the University of British Columbia, he deciphers how these creations play with words, images, and grammar. 

Two researchers at the Institut du Langage, du Texte et de la Transmédialité (NaLTT) have just been awarded funding from the F.R.S - FNRS following calls whose results were published in December 2024.Composed of researchers in linguistics and literature, the NaLTT Institute constitutes an interdisciplinary space for diachronic and synchronic research into verbal and multimodal communicative practices that manifest themselves in, are shaped and/or regulated by culture and society.
