In September 1961, a few professors and fifteen students inaugurated the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at the University of Namur. Later renamed the Faculté des sciences économiques, sociales et de gestion, or FSESG, in over 60 years of existence, it has trained thousands of students who have become experts and decision-makers in key fields: economics, management, communication and political science. In September 2024, it changed its name to EMCP or Faculté Économie Management Communication sciencesPo. A change of name, symbol of a visionary mutation.

The Vodoun School of Economics (VoSE) in January 2025 was another success, bringing together participants from four institutions: the University of Namur, the University of Abomey-Calavi, the University of Antwerp and the African School of Economics.

Beautiful victory for Margaux Mignolet, a researcher at the Faculty of Medicine's Unité de Recherche en Physiologie Moléculaire (URPhyM), who wins 1st prize in the Belgian inter-university final of the Ma thèse en 180 secondes (MT180) competition. Her research? To better understand the mechanisms of antibodies active in cases of long COVID. The second prize in this national competition was also won by a candidate from Namur. It was Petra Manja, from the Unité de Recherche en biologie des micro-organismes (URBM), Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, and is pursuing a thesis aimed at understanding resistance mechanisms in the bacterium E. coli. Both are also researchers at the NARILIS Institute.

How can data analysis contribute to sustainable development and the social profit sector? This is the challenge answered by students in the Bachelor of Management Engineering program at the Faculty of Economics Management Communication sciencesPo (EMCP) at the University of Namur. On December 12, 2024, they presented their projects at the Namur Stock Exchange, after three months' work on data analyses carried out in collaboration with partners in the social profit sector. They explored themes essential to this sector and our society, as part of the "Data Analytics" course, taught by Claire Deventer in partnership with the King Baudouin Foundation and leading representatives of the social profit sector in Belgium.

An analysis of voter turnout in October 2024This analysis presents a comparison of voter turnout in Wallonia, Brussels and Flanders. On the one hand, the report identifies the profiles and political attitudes of voters who abstained (representative survey of the Belgian population). On the other hand, the report presents the evolution of abstention and electoral participation according to institutional and political contexts in Wallonia. Particular attention is paid to the increase in blank and invalid votes in Wallonia.Analysis of the effects of electoral reforms since 2018This analysis presents the effects linked to the adoption of gender quotas in communal executives, as well as the effects of the end of the devolutive effect of the top box in Wallonia. These electoral reforms may have had limited effects in some communes (mainly due to a "learning" effect of the new electoral rules). Our report analyzes the effects observed in 2024 and the factors explaining the differences observed between Wallonia's communes.Analysis of the restructuring of the electoral offer in 2024While 2018 had seen a significant increase in the number of lists present at communal polls (notably so-called "citizen" and far-right lists), in October 2024, the number of lists in competition fell significantly. An analysis of official figures describes the evolution of the number and type of lists according to the institutional and political configurations of Wallonia's communes. It focuses in particular on the evolution of typically "local" lists, a Walloon characteristic within European democracies. The IPCC warns of the growing impact of global warming on water, with more frequent droughts and floods threatening global supplies. By 2050, 42% of river basins will be severely affected, and flood damage could quadruple in the event of 4°C warming.
