The 11th edition of the Ma Thèse en 180 secondes competition was held this Friday, March 28, 2025 at the Faculty of Science. Three biologists will represent UNamur at the Belgian final, to be held in Mons on May 21.

Raise awareness among future compulsory school teachers of the need to integrate sustainable development objectives into their courses
The university has a duty to set an example in terms of sustainable development, in all three of its dimensions: economic, social and environmental. Sustainable "in form" through the way it manages its infrastructures and assets, and sustainable "in substance" through its commitment to research and teaching activities, in order to actively contribute to the environmental transition. All in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNamur researchers published in Nature Physics
Professor Timoteo Carletti of the University of Namur has just published in the prestigious journal Nature Physics in collaboration with Professor Ginestra Bianconi of Queen Mary University of London and eight other international researchers. This groundbreaking study could lead to the development of new AI algorithms, new ways of studying brain function, or breakthroughs in disciplines such as physics, climate science, finance and many others.

ORION: Sustainable management of water resources in the Meuse watershed
On December 11, 2024, the University of Reims-Champagne-Ardenne hosted the launch event for the ORION project, in which the University of Namur is a partner. This project, financed for 4 years by ERDF and INTERREG funds, aims to improve water management in the Val de Meuse while preserving the ecosystems of the Val de Meuse, a river running through France and Belgium.

ALTAïS - Penetrating the depths of matter to meet today's challenges
Founded some 50 years ago, the Laboratoire d'Analyse par Réactions Nucléaires (LARN) in the Department of Physics at the University of Namur is home to a 2MV tandem particle gas pedal named ALTAÏS (Accélérateur Linéaire Tandetron pour l'Analyse et l'Implantation des Solides), in operation since 1999.

Water and the ecological transition: the world and Wallonia
The IPCC warns of the growing impact of global warming on water, with more frequent droughts and floods threatening global supplies. By 2050, 42% of river basins will be severely affected, and flood damage could quadruple in the event of 4°C warming. Although they bear little responsibility, the most vulnerable populations suffer the worst consequences. In Wallonia, recent climatic disasters and water pollution illustrate the stakes.
