At the beginning of each academic year, the UNamur Board of Governors grants NARC Fellow status to researchers who have demonstrated a high-level research CV and who have recently received a prestigious prize or funding. This year, 3 researchers have been awarded this status, which offers them support to pursue their research in the best possible conditions.

In September 2023, a new page in UNamur's history was written with the creation of the Faculty of Education and Training Sciences (FaSEF). The only one of its kind in French-speaking Belgium, the FaSEF houses programs for initial and in-service teacher training, as well as training for middle managers in the education sector and for support and training professionals in various professional fields. It also fulfills research and service missions for the academic community and society at large. Bringing together researchers in educational sciences, coaches, trainers, educational psychologists, didacticians and techno-pedagogues, it promotes training and coaching as well as research in educational sciences. On April 24, 2024, an event bringing together numerous players in the sector was organized to celebrate the official inauguration of this 7th faculty.

A team from QUALIblood, a University of Namur spin-off and the Department of Pharmacy has developed a blood test that assesses the risk of developing thrombosis. It is specifically aimed at women wishing to take a contraceptive pill or hormone treatment for the menopause. The development of this test and its availability to healthcare professionals is a world first!

Since 2019, the Federal Science Policy (BELSPO) has been funding FED-tWIN research programmes, run jointly by Federal Scientific Establishments and universities throughout Belgium. UNamur has been awarded two of them. One for the PraME research centre dedicated to the study of medieval writing practices and linked to the PaTHs Institute.

It's a first in terms of pedagogical approach: getting all the students and teaching staff at the Faculty of Law, across all blocks and programs, to work on a single theme over the course of an academic year. From lectures and practical work to conferences, cultural events and civic engagement, many of the activities offered by the Faculty of Law focus on a single theme.

Pediatrician specializing in neonatology, Jean Bottu divides his time between the Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Air Rescue association. In hospital, by ambulance or by plane, he cares for premature babies and children in intensive care. He also helped set up the Luxembourg branch of Médecin du Monde.

The University of Namur actively participates in the development of Wallonia's socio-economic fabric. Indeed, there are numerous partnerships and synergies between companies and researchers at our institution. Thanks to the Walloon recovery plan, UNamur has also been able to acquire several pieces of cutting-edge scientific equipment, which will be integrated into existing technology platforms, enriching the expertise of researchers and enabling them to offer more services.

UNamur and UCLouvain have formed a university alliance. This university alliance, Louvain Namur ensemble (AULNE), brings together 48,000 students, i.e. almost 45% of university students in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, as well as more than 8,000 members of staff. The aim? To step up existing collaboration in research and teaching, with the aim of achieving ever greater quality and relevance, for the benefit of students and society as a whole. In concrete terms, this is not a merger but a coming together to defend shared values and a common university model.

At the University of Namur, students have many opportunities to travel and pursue part of their studies abroad. But UNamur also welcomes students from many other countries for stays of varying lengths in Belgium. For the latter, it's back to school time too!
