Since 2008, the ADREs of the universities in the Walloon French Community, united within the LiEU network (University-Business Liaison), have received joint funding from the ESF and the Walloon Region through the MIRVAL (2004–2014) and MIRVAL+ (2014–2020), which enabled the establishment of the LiEU Network (Business-University Liaison Network), the promotion of skills, and the raising of awareness among researchers.

For 2021–2027, the project is titled MIse en Réseau de la VALorisation de l’Innovation Stratégique (MIRVALIS) and receives support from the ERDF and Wallonia.

The 3 pillars of the MIRVALIS project

  • CATCH4IMPACT: Understanding the needs of socio-economic development stakeholders and positioning university teams to best address them.
  • BOOST4IMPACT: Accelerating the transfer of knowledge from laboratories to these stakeholders.
  • SHARE4IMPACT: Optimizing the resources available to universities to achieve their goals of creating value from research results.

Objective

To increase the impact of university research on the economic and social development of our Region, particularly in connection with the Walloon Strategic Innovation Areas (DIS).

This project is carried out in partnership with all universities in the Walloon French Community (UCLouvain, ULB, ULiège, UMons, UNamur) and the Synherra network for higher education institutions, under the auspices of Wallonie Entreprendre, the lead partner for the “Research Valorization” portfolio.

The LiEU Network's Mission

  • INFORM – RAISE AWARENESS | Raising researchers’ awareness of calls for proposals, intellectual property issues, and the commercialization of research results.
  • CONNECT | Inter-university research-industry events on targeted topics.
  • IDENTIFY – COMMERCIALIZE | Monitoring projects and identifying commercializable research results and companies’ innovation needs.
  • COLLABORATE | Supporting researchers and socio-economic stakeholders in their innovation projects

Advisors dedicated to supporting researchers and businesses

Scientific Advisors for Commercialization are professionals specializing in industry-research collaborations. They work as a network to facilitate companies’ access to the expertise and equipment of the 10,000 researchers affiliated with the academic institutions of the FWB. Six working groups are organized by professional sector, serving as single points of entry to academic expertise:

Agri-food | Materials | Health and Life Sciences | Energy and Environment | Digital Technologies | Humanities and Social Sciences

The LiEU Network operates within an innovative ecosystem where interactions among innovation stakeholders are numerous and actively sought. Professional federations, the EasyNove intermediation network, competitiveness clusters, incubators, and public authorities: all maintain close relationships and leverage their complementary strengths.
