The Bible is part of the religious and cultural heritage of humanity. The New Testament was written around the person of Jesus Christ in the first century AD. It took several centuries for it to be finally established. Knowing the history of the composition of the New Testament and its writing opens up a better understanding of the inspiration that the corpus has allowed in history and art.
The aim is to gain a better understanding of a fundamental text of our culture, both the Jewish and Christian Bible, to be able to navigate this monumental work and grasp the complexity of its writing and interpretation.
The course focuses on the writing of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, placing it in its historical and geographical contexts.
It will also focus on a few texts for analysis, examining their writing style and questions of interpretation.
During the course, texts taken mainly from the Bible will be analysed.
An audio-visual documentary will be viewed and also analysed during the course.
The course is lecture-based and takes place in a lecture theatre. There is no audio-visual recording.
The teaching is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation.
During the course, a number of written, iconographic and audio-visual documents will be analysed in a participatory manner.
A two-hour written exam.
The assessment is closed book.
There are several different questionnaires that are alternated among the seats in the lecture hall.
Each questionnaire includes three types of questions:
a first question that counts for half the points and requires knowledge of material from various parts and chapters of the course.
A second question consists of writing a short essay on a topic covered in the course.
A third question consists of briefly answering two short questions on the course.
The questions will draw on various documents covered during the course.
One session of the course (1 hour) is devoted to presenting the professor's requirements for the examination, using examples of possible questions.
The PowerPoint presentation for the course will be available on WebCampus, along with other documents.
There is no syllabus.
