The course aims to enable students to acquire the skills needed to research the main sources of law (legislation, case law, legal scholarship) as well as the skills required to carry out a legal study.
The course has four main components: learning how to use databases to search for (1) legislation, (2) case law and (3) legal writings, and (4) familiarisation with research in the library of the Faculty of Law at the University of Namur.

The exercises are included in the lecture course.
The lecture takes place in a computer room, allowing students to learn how to search for references themselves. The course is both lecture-based and interactive, as students have the opportunity to suggest answers to the references given and then correct themselves or improve their approach.
The course is assessed by means of an assignment that the student is asked to complete in a given branch of law, on a very specific subject.
This assignment will enable the student to put into practice the material covered in the lecture.
The assessment for the legal methodology course therefore takes the form of a written assignment, which counts for 30% of the final grade out of 20 during the January session and for 70% of the final grade out of 20 during the June session.
