The exact content of the course may vary, but it covers topics in protein function and genomics. At the end of the course, the student will be able to perform protein sequence analyses, predict protein structures, and understand the principles underlying phylogenetic reconstruction.
The student will also be capable of performing certain genomic analyses, such as genome assembly, mapping to reference genomes, variant calling, and comparative analyses.
To give the basic principles of bioinformatics methods for the analyses of proteins and genomes and to discuss the power and limits of bioinformatics.
To apply bioinformatics methods to identify genes/proteins, predict their functions, establish evolutionary relationships and predict protein structure and protein complexes, comparative genomics and -omics integration tools.
The course is divided in modules:
1. Protein sequence analyses, phylogeny, protein structure prediction, databases
2. Genomics.
Protein module
Module Genomes Genome annotation
Bioinformatics -based projects.
The course will combine lectures, article discussion and practical sessions. The practical sessions will be organised as projects to be discussed in the evaluations. The students will send partial reports after each TP.
The evaluation will consist of the presentations and discussion of exercises/projects previously assigned. Theory and practice will be evaluated in the presentations and discussions.
Material on webcampus.
