At the end of this course unit, students should be able to handle key concepts of cell biology, engage with scientific literature, and interact with biologists.

Deepen the cell biology knowledge of students in physics of life.

Enable students in physics of life to become familiar with key concepts for approaching cell biology (scientific literature, interactions with biologists).

The material corresponds to chapters 4, 5, 8, 9, and 12 of the book Cell and Molecular Biology by Karp (4th edition, De Boeck).

Teaching methods

The course is entirely self-paced learning and based on the reference textbook. Three meetings with the professor are scheduled during the semester to monitor knowledge acquisition and address students’ misunderstandings. These meetings are arranged at the beginning of the semester in consultation with the students and take place informally in the professor’s office, paced according to the students, in a question-and-answer format.
