Understanding Antiquity and illuminating our world through Greek and Latin sources
Greek and Latin literature is one of the foundations of Western thought and culture. Whether we study history, literature, the arts, currents of thought..., references to Greco-Roman antiquity are omnipresent, from the Middle Ages to the present day. The Department of Classical Languages and Literatures is thus atthe intersection of disciplines, at the heart of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. Present since the creation of the University of Namur, courses in Latin and Greek introduce students to the study of ancient authors and the world in which they lived, while encouraging them to reflect on how each era has understood and been inspired by Antiquity. All indispensable keys to a profound understanding of our own world. The Department of Classical Languages and Literatures brings together teacher-researchers specializing in the study of Greek and Latin languages and literatures, but also in the history of antiquity. This union of philology and history is at the heart of the department's scientific and didactic project. It guarantees a genuine synergy in the teaching of subjects related to Greco-Roman antiquity.

Department of French and Romance Languages and Literatures
These studies enable the development of an in-depth knowledge of Romance languages and, mainly through literature, of a culture, of which they are one of the fundamental vehicles: the French domain in all cases and, depending on the options chosen, the Spanish or Italian domain. These languages and their literatures are studied both in their historical forms and in their contemporary configurations. These studies develop theoretical knowledge in linguistic and literary registers, and particular attention is paid to the critical dimension of knowledge and analytical frameworks.
The fight against disease is both a science and an art. Knowledge of human beings, pathologies and medicines is the key to fighting disease. But the essence of the medical art is practiced in contact with patients, who are looking for a doctor who is rigorous, with solid knowledge and sound reasoning, but who is also deeply warm and human.

In the Western tradition, philosophy represents a radical effort to understand reality. Philosophy casts an astonished, questioning gaze on the world around it and on mankind. The philosopher rejects the easy "obvious" and asks why things are the way they are. Rather than a discipline juxtaposed with others, philosophy as a critical approach thus constitutes an attitude and a spirit that apply to all registers, particularly intellectual, of human activity.
