The Laboratory of Adaptive Evolution and Genomics (LEAG) is directed by Professor Alice Dennis. It is one of five laboratories belonging to the Research Unit in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology (URBE) within the Department of Biology. LEAG is also a member of the Institute of Life, Earth, and Environment (ILEE).
Research focuses on the genomic basis of adaptive variation. This is studied by comparing genetic and physiological variations among populations and species. This includes differences in temperature tolerance (especially to frost!), responses to multiple stressors, and differences between parasitoids and their hosts.

Mapping Life
In 2021, the European Union embarked on a monumental project: to preserve the genomes of all eukaryotic species in Europe—that is, all living organisms except bacteria and archaea (microorganisms). The ERGA project—short for European Reference Genome Atlas—hopes to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity, especially since one-fifth of European species are at risk of extinction.
