OUMRu Roundtables

The OUMRu roundtables have been held in December since 2024. They bring together academic experts, frontline healthcare providers, policymakers, and others to discuss issues related to rural medicine.

2024 – First panel discussion

Topics:

  •  Objectification of rurality and scarcity, with the participation of AVIQ and IWEPS;
  • drivers of change, with the participation of Communes and the SSMG;
  • Medical care in rural areas: the examples of Luxembourg, Sivry-Rance, and Namur. 

2025 – Second roundtable discussion

Topic: The elimination of the mandatory hospital internship and its replacement with an optional internship in areas facing a shortage of healthcare workers. Featuring Federal Deputy Jean-François Gatelier.

2026 – Third roundtable discussion

December 3, 2026 (subject to confirmation)

Topic: Perspectives on the shortage in rural areas. 

The roundtable will provide an opportunity to compare situations (France, Luxembourg, Flanders) and to reflect together on prospects and potential solutions.
