Acquisition of language level B1/B2 according to CEFR criteria (for non-native speakers of German). This course focuses on speaking: the activities are designed to expand vocabulary, develop fluency and confidence in presenting ideas to peers.
The course aims to develop students’ fluency in spoken German. Students learn to express their own ideas in a precise yet nuanced manner, whilst deepening their cultural understanding of German-speaking countries. They engage in discussions with one another during class sessions, thereby fostering a culture of dialogue and debate.
The course centres on a book (primarily from the 20th century), which changes every year and serves as the basis for discussion and related cultural activities.
Geschichte der deutschen Literatur I (800-1700) [LALLB103]
Project-based learning. The activities vary from year to year. Students are asked to present readings, take part in cultural activities and then lead a discussion in German about their experiences. They each keep a ‘cultural diary’ which is updated every week - and which thus encourages them to develop their own creativity.
Formative assessment throughout the semester.
Oral examination in January and during the second examination period in August.
