The availability of natural resources for future generations can only be ensured through prudent use.

Geological resources - Responsible extraction and sustainable management of non-renewable resources

Everyday items such as cell phones and solar panels contain non-renewable resources (metals or rare-earth minerals) that need to be extracted responsibly. ILEE prospects and characterizes these geological resources (petrography, mineralogy and geochemistry of supergeneous ores) and integrates human use over the centuries, to improve their sustainable management.

Biological resources - Management and restoration of aquatic ecosystems

The conservation of endangered species (e.g. salmon and eels) is the goal of aquatic ecosystem management and restoration. ILEE is investigating the ideal conditions for cryopreserving fish sperm for restocking programs, or the impact of hydroelectric power plants on fish populations. Ecological indicators (diatoms, macroinvertebrates, etc.) are used to assess surface water quality.

Sustainable livestock production - Reasonable aquaculture productivity

Temperate species (Eurasian perch, zander and trout) and tropical species (striped catfish, African catfish and tilapia) are studied. Emphasis is placed on the application of immune stimulation techniques to find alternatives to the use of antibiotics and chemicals, on the replacement of fishmeal and fish oil with substances of plant origin, and on the improvement of husbandry to promote fish welfare.
