Students selected to participate in an international exchange program receive a grant, the amount of which varies depending on the destination country, the type, format, and duration of the exchange, and their student status. In some cases, they may also be eligible for a travel allowance.

Mobility grants, as their name suggests, are not intended to cover all of the expenses incurred by students during their stay abroad, but rather to contribute significantly toward them.

However, since inclusion is one of the priorities of the 2021–2027 Erasmus+ program, specific measures—both financial and organizational—have been put in place to promote the participation of students with fewer opportunities (FWO) in mobility programs. More information is available on the website page dedicated to inclusion policies in international mobility programs.

Eligibility Criteria for an International Mobility Grant

In order for international mobility to be funded, the following conditions must be met:

  • A student applying for a grant whose place of stay is within a 150-km radius of Namur or their legal residence must reside in the host country for the duration of their mobility.
  • A student applying for a mobility grant for study or an internship must have been definitively selected by their home faculty, in accordance with the criteria and procedures established by that faculty and the schedule defined at the institutional level;
  • A student applying for a mobility grant must be regularly enrolled at UNamur at the time of their stay abroad in a program that includes a study or internship period;
  • The student undertaking a study abroad program has been accepted by one of the institutions with which UNamur has established a partnership. To view the list of possible destinations, visit the website and contact your faculty coordinator.
  • A student undertaking a training placement (internship) must have been previously accepted by an international public or private organization (company, university, research center, NGO, etc.), as evidenced by an internship agreement signed prior to the mobility period;
  • The studies and training activities completed during the mobility period must be part of the student’s curriculum at UNamur and be subject to full academic recognition. The transfer or awarding of credits will be carried out in accordance with the standards defined by the Erasmus University Charter.
  • A valid study or internship agreement must be drawn up and signed by all three parties before the student’s departure.

Scholarship Payment

The scholarship is normally paid in two installments:

  • The first installment is normally paid before departure, provided that the contractual documents and other formalities are in order, specifically:

(1) the scholarship contract, duly completed and signed, as well as the study or internship agreement, completed and signed by all three parties, have been sent to the Office of International Relations (SRI);

(2) confirmation of enrollment at UNamur for the year of the mobility period, in a program that includes the mobility stay;

(3) confirmation of having passed the first language test via Online Linguistic Support. Note: Students receiving an Erasmus Belgica or FAMES scholarship are not subject to this requirement.

The first installment amounts to 80% of the total scholarship amount. This amount is calculated based on the estimated duration of the stay.

  • The balance is paid after the student returns to Belgium, provided that the student:

(1) has sent the SRI the certificate of stay signed and stamped by the coordinator at the host university or the internship supervisor, including the exact dates of the stay;

(2) has submitted their evaluation report;

(3) has taken the second language test via Online Linguistic Support (only for students receiving (co-)funding from the Erasmus+ program).

The balance is calculated based on the actual duration of the stay (final calculation).

Loans for Master's Students

As part of the funding for a mobility project, graduate students may apply for an interest-free loan from the Student Welfare Office.
