This course will enable students to understand the basic operation of an accelerator. It will cover the physical principles of the various subsystems, from the source to the target: the acceleration module, beam extraction in a circular accelerator, and the transport and manipulation of a particle beam using magnetic fields.
The operation of different types of accelerators will also be covered: linacs, electrostatic accelerators, dynamitrons, cyclotrons, rhodotrons, synchrocyclotrons, etc.
The production of radioisotopes using accelerators will also be demonstrated.
