By the end of the teaching sessions, students will be able to:
Oral production: communicate information and express their opinions using examples and arguments; give an oral presentation on a current affairs topic; lead and participate in a debate.
Listening comprehension: understand the main points of an audiovisual document (podcast, radio or TV programme) dealing with topics covered in the various classes or similar topics (current affairs, topics of personal interest).
Reading comprehension: understand the main points of a text written in everyday language (current affairs, topics covered in class or similar topics, topics of personal interest).
As the Master's Spanish courses do not start at beginner level, Master's students who have never studied Spanish will not be able to enrol in these courses. However, they will have the opportunity to take the beginner-level course offered at Bachelor's level (ECDL B196).
The course aims to consolidate the language skills acquired in the past in order to enable students to communicate effectively. More specifically, it aims to develop communication and comprehension skills so that students are able to interact in contexts relating to current affairs and topics of personal interest.

The course is taught face-to-face in small groups, in the form of interactive seminars conducted in Spanish. Particular emphasis is placed on oral production. Regular attendance is therefore essential and necessary for making progress.
The objectives and activities are designed in accordance with the principles of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Particular attention is paid to students' workload, namely the distribution between face-to-face teaching hours and the credits allocated to the course. One fifth of the credits allocated to the course will consist of face-to-face sessions with the instructor; the remaining hours/credits will be completed remotely via the Webcampus platform (1 credit = 30 hours of study/coursework).
The final course grade is calculated as follows:
Continuous assessment (40%):
Oral presentation followed by a debate – 20%
Grammar and vocabulary tests – 20%
January examination (60%):
Grammar and vocabulary test – 20%
Oral examination – 40%
Failure to attend, or receiving a mark of absence, for any part of the examination or continuous assessment will result in a mark of absence for the assessment as a whole.
The use of AI is strictly prohibited, both when preparing assignments (e.g. writing a presentation script) and during tests and examinations. The use of AI or any other unauthorised tool will automatically result in a failing grade (0/20).
In the second examination session, students who obtained a final grade below 10/20 in January will have to retake the component(s) for which they obtained a grade below 10/20, namely linguistic competence (40%), oral presentation (20%), and/or oral expression (40%).
As in January, failure to attend, or receiving a mark of absence, for any one of these components will result in a mark of absence for the assessment as a whole.
In the event of a further failure, the student will have to retake the entire examination the following academic year; no partial exemption (carry-over of grades) will be granted from one academic year to the next.
Important note: passing this course unit is not certificative, i.e. it does not certify that the student has achieved any particular CEFR level.
