By the end of the course unit, the student will be able to formulate a research question and identify relevant concepts and keywords; develop and implement an appropriate literature search strategy; identify and use the main databases and information resources relevant to the medical field; use the documentary tools and services provided by the BUMP; select relevant sources according to the research or clinical question; locate and access documents identified through a literature search; and organize and use the bibliographic references required for academic work or to answer a clinical question.
To familiarize students with the principles of literature searching in the medical field and with the main information resources available. To develop students’ ability to search for relevant scientific information in a structured and efficient manner in order to answer a clinical or research question. To introduce students to the resources, databases, and bibliographic tools provided by the BUMP and enable them to use these resources independently.
Principles of literature searching applied to the medical field: formulation of a research question, identification of relevant concepts and keywords, development of a search strategy, and use of the main bibliographic resources and databases. Introduction to and use of the information resources, tools, and services provided by the BUMP, particularly for searching, accessing, and managing scientific information.
Theoretical and practical training provided by the BUMP, combining the presentation of the principles and tools of literature searching with their practical application through demonstrations and hands-on exercises, using resources and electronic learning materials developed by the BUMP.
This course unit is assessed through a written assignment.
