The CERPE studies issues of major interest related to regional economic analysis and economic policy. The center's areas of expertise are rooted in spatial and regional economics, interregional and international economics, industrial and competition economics, labor and personnel economics, the economics of entrepreneurship and innovation, public economics and public finance.

In keeping with its mission, the research carried out combines both theoretical and applied work, with a particular focus on Wallonia in the Belgian institutional landscape.

CERPE researchers regularly present the results of their research at major international (e.g. ERSA, EARIE, INFER and the European Trade Study Group) and national (e.g. the Belgian Congress of Economists) conferences, as well as in specialized workshops (e.g. CEPR, IZA, ZEW, European Commission, ECFED and BURENet). They routinely share and discuss their findings in political, economic and social circles.

The CERPE's funding comes mainly from scientific, institutional and public sources. The Chaire d'excellence pour la recherche et l'expertise en entrepreneuriat (CHEREE), linked to CERPE, is also funded by patronage.

Research conducted at CERPE leads to publications in general and specialized scientific journals (Journal of International Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Public Economic Theory, Economics Letters, Economic Inquiry, International Economics and Economic Policy, and PLOS ONE).

The ideas are also disseminated to a wider audience through traditional media.
