The Lasers, Optics & Spectroscopies (LOS) platform at the University of Namur offers unique expertise in the study of the rotational, vibrational, electronic, and scattering properties of matter, explored through linear and nonlinear optical processes generated by dedicated lasers and optical sources.
It enables the analysis of gas traces, molecular films at interfaces, as well as 2D and 3D nanosystems.
In addition to its experimental capabilities, the platform develops analytical and computational models to interpret photon-matter spectroscopic responses.

UNamur and the LOS platform invite researchers and industry professionals to an interactive event dedicated to exploring its new Raman microscope.
Description
The LOS platform uses advanced optical techniques to characterize matter, light, and their interactions, in the context of both basic and applied research.
Optical phenomena are used to study matter in the gaseous and solid states, with a focus on topics such as:
- the detection of air pollutants,
- the analysis of nanostructured materials, interfaces, and surfaces,
- the study of biological and bio-inspired systems,
- the development of biosensor devices.

IBAF Conference 2026
Sixteen years after hosting the 2010 edition, UNamur is delighted to revive this scientific tradition and welcome the 11th edition of the Rencontres Ion Beam Applications Francophones (IBAF). This edition will be organized by scientists from the UNamur Physics Department who are active in the fields of materials science, biophysics, and interdisciplinary applications of ion beams.
The IBAF Meetings have been organized since 2003, every two years since 2008, by the Ion Beams Division of the French Vacuum Society (SFV), the oldest national vacuum society in the world, which celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2025.
As in previous editions, IBAF 2026 will offer a rich and varied program with guest lectures, oral and poster presentations, and technical sessions. All this will be complemented by an industrial presence to promote exchanges between research and innovation.
The conference will cover a wide range of topics, from ion beam instruments and techniques to the physics of ion-matter interactions, including the analysis and modification of materials, applications in the life sciences, earth and environmental sciences, and heritage sciences.
UNamur Raman Day
An interactive event held at the University of Namur, dedicated to exploring the new Raman microscope and bringing together researchers and industry professionals.
The program includes presentations by experts on Raman microscopy and its applications, hands-on sessions, and a tour of the facilities.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with specialists from ST Instruments and the Lasers, Optics & Spectroscopies platform during hands-on workshops and networking sessions.
This event allows doctoral students to earn 1 ECTS credit; a certificate of participation can also be issued upon request.
The morning will conclude with a networking lunch, and the afternoon will end with drinks.
This event is free, but registration is required.
