This course unit aims to:
The course comprises seminars delivered by external guest speakers and the course co-leaders, as well as discussions on the following topics :
the clathrin-independent endocytosis of cargo molecules
the exocytosis of the metalloproteinase MT1-MMP in breast cancer cells
the recycling of proteins from endosomes to the plasma membrane
the sensing and the adaptation of cellular structures to mechanical forces
the intracellular transport of proteins along the microtubules
the organelle-based genome photoprotection
Dr. Isabelle HAMER (UNamur): Intracellular transport of the matrix metalloproteinase MT1-MMP in breast cancer cells.
Prof. Henri-François RENARD (UNamur): Unconventional clathrin-independent endocytosis.
Prof. Francesco BASCHIERI (Medical University of Innsbruck): Plasticity of cell adhesions in cancer cell migration.
Prof. Maud MARTIN (ULB) : Secreting at the right place : regulation of the molecular machinery responsible for transporting constitutive secretion vesicles.

This teaching unit is a module in which most of the lessons are delivered in the form of seminars, mainly by guest researchers from outside the university. In these cases, the presentations will be preceded by a short introduction by the students and followed by a Question and Answer session.
Several lectures will also be delivered by the module co-coordinators. During these sessions, students will need to work together to consider different experimental approaches to answer a biological question.
This teaching unit implies an active participation of the students.
Continuous assessment based on:
Introduction to a speaker’s research work presented to the group (by pairs of students)
Active participation in seminars (questions asked and answers given by students)
Design of a mini research project and its presentation to the group (by pairs of students)
PubMed, slides, videos (available on Webcampus).
